I am a mixed media artist who is inspired by the natural world. I love painting in watercolour and acrylic and enjoy surprising and exciting effects which I hope give freshness and vivacity to my paintings. My work is concerned with the effects of light. rain, snow and mist on the landscape, but recently water has become my main interest. Work on show features the sea and rivers of Suffolk, Sussex and my home county of Cumbria.

Driven by a desire to express her painterly instincts through clay, Suri revels in the interplay of vibrant colours against the canvas of white porcelain. She embraces "happy accidents," fostering spontaneity in her use of colour and pattern. Continual experimentation with materials and techniques enable her to realise her artistic vision.
Suri specialises in the intricate Nerikomi ceramic technique, tracing its roots back to 7th-century China. By infusing coloured stains into porcelain, she achieves captivating patterns without surface painting. Suri's method resembles the creation of a "Battenberg cake," meticulously layering coloured clay, cutting and reconfiguring the slices multiple times to craft intricate designs. Her process, spanning 6-8 weeks, allows for the necessary cleaning, resting and drying time at each stage, culminating in carefully fired and glazed vessels.
Suri's art seeks to resonate not only through its intricate patterns and forms but also through mysterious beauty.

I have been painting furniture along with murals, trompe l’oeil and faux effects for the last 30 years. Since retiring from this, my love is still sourcing old and interesting pieces of furniture from charity shops, Ebay, antique shops and house clearance warehouses so that I can restore and paint them in different styles. I use antique furniture books, historic houses and, of course, the internet for inspiration. Please take a look at my website to see some of the pieces I’ve done over the years.
