My starting point in arts and crafts was through textiles - I spent two years in Canada learning to weave, during which time I discovered hand made felt. I explored felt making for many years and made both small wearable items and larger wall hangings, and I took part in various exhibitions. I completed a Diploma in Stitched Textiles and was a member of the Odyssey exhibiting group. Over the last few years I have spent more time in painting and drawing, printmaking and collage.

I went to Art school at 16 studying textile design and then had a long career in the publishing industry as Art Director.

I took up painting about 10 years ago and since retiring I paint daily… well when I’m feeling inspired! I exhibit at Oxford Art Weeks and this year as part of Thame Art Crawl.

I’m a covid artist and just started painting 3 1/2 years ago. I love painting portraits in oils and especially dark complexions as I spend a few months a year in St Lucia.

Gerry discovered and fell in love with printmaking after visiting an exhibition of relief prints in Bath in 2012. She works solely in linocut enjoying the mindfullness of mark-making and rigorous process of printmaking, most often using the reduction technique to produce multi-layered multi-coloured prints. Her work typically depicts her fondness for British wildlife; birds, flowers, countryside and above all, colour.
She is a member of Oxford Art Society. Gerry teaches Linocut workshops at her home studio. She exhibits and sells at local exhibitions throughout South Oxfordshire, including Thame Art Crawl, Henley Arts Trail and Oxfordshire Artweeks. She also sells online in the UK and internationally. Her print “Clarinet; Lines and spaces” was selected for Royal Academy summer exhibition in 2024.

I studied Graphic and Advertising Design at the Berkshire College of Art in the exciting years of late 60’s
I made a career in advertising and since retirement I have joined HACG enjoying many workshops and exhibitions , learning and being inspired by others. I enjoy working in all media and always carry a camera on my travels, finding my own photographs a great inspiration to paint. I would describe my work as ‘loose’ probably learnt from my training as a visualiser rather than an illustrator.
